About Krista
The journey of becoming pregnant, birthing a baby, and becoming a parent is unique for each person. I have traveled these roads more than once, but this journey is yours. You design the route and if there’s a detour, you choose the direction in which to go. My role as your doula is to walk next to you as your supportive advocate during any part of that journey.
My second pregnancy ended in miscarriage and it was a completely unexpected, isolating, and traumatic experience. I had no idea that one in four pregnancies ends in a loss and yet, no one talks about it. It wasn’t until I started sharing my story that I learned of so many others who had also suffered in silence. At that point, I decided to turn my pain and frustration into purpose.
Between 2015 and 2018, I co-produced the documentary, Don’t Talk About the Baby, a film that explores the culture of shame and silence surrounding pregnancy loss, stillbirth, and infertility through expert interviews and personal stories. Completing this project provided me with with the opportunity to process my feelings surrounding my loss, but I still felt there was more work to be done.
In 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic and social unrest, I realized the biggest impact I could make was to return to the work of which I was most passionate. At that point, I made the decision to began my journey as a doula to continue advocating and supporting people through pregnancy and loss. In February 2021 I received my postpartum doula certification through Doula Trainings International (DTI) and bereavement doula certification through StillBirthday (SBD). In November 2021, I completed a DTI full-spectrum doula certification so that I could offer my support during any part of one’s reproductive health journey.
I graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in sociology and currently sit on the Board of Directors of The 2 Degrees Foundation, a New Jersey-based non-profit organization committed to raising funds for stillbirth research, increasing stillbirth awareness and education, and providing bereavement support for families who have been affected by stillbirth and other forms of pregnancy loss.
Continuing my education in the reproductive health space is so important to me and allows me to be able to provide clients and my community with evidence-based information and resources surrounding their experiences. Below you’ll find additional certifications that reinforce the quality of care of my services.
